Now the Rev’s boy
Got some Sneaky Pete
Got into some things
I hesitate to repeat
Now he’s singing like a duck
At the bottom of a whiskey lake
Please come down
And take your boy
Thought the best thing to do
Was get him off the street
Let him ponder the errors
Of his ways
But his voice is strong
And the night is long
Please come down
And take your boy
Now I’m the sheriff of this town
And the sheriff has a reputation to maintain
But if he keeps this up
Whole thing’s going down the drain
Please come down
And take your boy
“Mr. Sheriff”, your boy said to me,
“Won’t stop, and I’ll tell you why,
Got nothing else to do
‘cept be black and die”
Please come down
And take your boy
Got all these notes
Bouncing off the walls
Bouncing off the bars
Bouncing down the halls
I don’t mind losing
I don’t mind at all
Please come down
And take your boy.

Words and Music: Cornelius Eady
I’m a cockroach
Not a man
That’s what the cops
Say I am
My hands were up
Like daddy said
Hands up
Shot dead
God will get
The glory now
God will get
The glory now
If you wanna live
Hands up
Sometimes
It ain’t enough
Weren’t enough
For the cops
Their displeasure
Had to stop
God will get
The glory now
God will get
The glory now
Daddy said:
Don’t walk
Don’t talk
Don’t look the police
In the eye
Don’t sass
Don’t ask
Don’t make
Your mama cry
God will get
The glory now
God will get
The glory now
Bullet said:
Shut up
Bullet said:
That’s enough
Daddy told my boy
Like he told me;
They can kill a man
But not the glory.
God will get
The glory now
God will get
The glory now.

Words and Music: Cornelius Eady
Who’s this boy
The police got down?
Who’s that boy
That cop’s making him
Kiss the ground?
Lord, ain’t that
Perry?
Lord, ain’t that Perry?
You don’t know him
The way an uncle know
You weren’t around
To see him grow
They pushed him round, called
Him a thug
Just a walking, talking, wanted mug.
Who’s this boy
The Police got down
Who’s that boy
That cop’s making him
Kiss the ground?
Lord, ain’t that
Perry?
Lord, ain’t that Perry?
Now he’s crying for his Mama
But my sister’s dead,
And I see the thought
Run through his head:
Right here, right now,
Where I lie
This is the spot
Where I’m gonna die.
Who’s this boy
The Police got down
Who’s that boy
That cop’s making him
Kiss the ground?
Lord, ain’t that
Perry?
Lord, ain’t that Perry?
And I can’t reach out
Into my TV
Gather him up and rock
That baby
The way I did
When he was small
I can’t do a damn thing
At all.
Who’s this boy
The Police got down
Who’s that boy
That cop’s making him
Eat the ground?
Lord, ain’t that
Perry?
Lord, I think that’s Perry.
I know the Good Lord works
In mysterious ways
And that’s all I’m gonna say.
The Lord grabbed his heart
And reached out to me
Found the hole in mine
And planted a seed.
